He’s very well renowned for having chosen to adopt, during the “Congresso Cispadano” (the Cispadane congress held in Reggio Emilia during January 1797), the tricolour flag known as “Stendardo Cisalpino” as the representative flag of the Italian State which, at the time, was in its beginnings.
