Ernesta Galletti Stoppa (Mezzano, 1850 – Lugo, 1939) was an educator and pioneer in the city of Lugo fighting for women’s liberation and equality.
A convinced Mazzinian, she realised that the Unification of Italy had not meant any true changes in the condition of women which was characterised by oppression and discrimination. For this reason, she set up a Women’s Mutual Aid Society in Lugo di Romagna (1872).
A plaque in her memory is displayed on the premises that became a women’s institute, since 1902 the Carabinieri Headquarters.
