MONUMENT TO FRANCESCO BARACCA

Monumento Francesco Baracca LugoThe monument is dedicated to the famous aviator, Francesco Baracca, born in Lugo in 1888 and fallen on Montello highlands (Treviso) on the June the 19th in 1918.

This masterpiece was made by the artist Domenico Rambelli from Faenza in 1936.

Dedicated to Francesco Baracca is also the museum containing the well known militar air plane “Spad VII S 2489” dating back to World War I. The plane is French made, while the engine is Spanish, and it was restored in 1993 by the group “Amici Velivoli Storici” from Turin.

The monument was inaugurated on 21 June 1936 by the Duke of Aosta. The aviator’s remains are located in the burial chapel in the Lugo cemetery.
