Este and Sforza are the ruling families that dominated this part of Italy in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The grand Estense fortress in Lugo and the romantic Sforzesco castle of Bagnara di Romagna maintain the characteristics of fascinating ancient countryside manor houses.

Built in the 18th century for the silk worm cocoons market, the Pavaglione of Lugo is a rare example of civil architecture. As well as the typical workshops and cafeterias located inside the building, under its arcades it hosts the great Wednesday market with its 600 years of history.

With its unique originality and elegance, Piazza Nuova in Bagnacavallo is the 18th century square with elliptical shape and porticos. Ancient location of butcheries and fishmongers, today with its taverns it is a recreational and romantic place.
