The Romagna Air Finders Museum (“An aircraft, a human-interest story”) in Fusignano is a must for all aviation and war history enthusiasts, exhibiting the finds discovered by the men of the R.A.F (Romagna Air Finders). The collection includes presents uniforms, personal possessions, clothing, inert weapons, equipment and 1:1 scale reproductions, documents and various curiosities rigorously organised and framed by large scenographic and explanatory panels, summarised in a dedicated catalogue.
On display at the first exhibition site (CURRENTLY CLOSED), in the centre of Fusignano (via Santa Barbara), there are important artefacts, including the remains of a Thunderbolt P47, a Brazilian army fighter plane recovered in the hills of the Province of Bologna, and a Messerschmitt BF109G, a German aircraft found in the San Bernardino di Lugo countryside together with the remains of its Chief Pilot Hans Fischer.
Furthermore, in 2018 the museum opened a second location, also in Fusignano, at Via Maiano no. 63/a, the bigger of the two. In both locations are collected finds and memorabilia of aircraft and pylons that fell in Italy in World War II: uniforms and objects, equipment and inert weapons, reproductions and documents, all rigorously recovered and authentic. So most of these are artefacts found by the men of the Romagna Air Finders, who, since that first unforgettable 13 August 1998, have unearthed no less than 18 aircraft that were shot down and buried underground in Italy, as well as the bodies of eight unfortunate British, German and Italian pilots, who were given funeral rites, military honours and a proper burial.
The location on Via Santa Barbara in Fusignano has been closed, and the Maiano location has been renovated.
Updates on the renovation will be soon available.
The Romagna Air Finders Museum has video and audio supports in addition to facilities for meetings, video viewings, consultation and study.
