“Torraccia” is one of the oldest buildings of Bagnacavallo historical town centre.
Its origins date back to the end of the XII – beginning of the XIII century, considering the building materials and the location in which it stands (it’s close to the church of San Giovanni and surely the monks would have not allowed a building nearby their church, once the church was alreay built). It is thought to be part of the Brandolini family buildings and, maybe, of the oldest defensive wall of the town, the one which used to protect the old “cittadella”.
With its square plant, it rises on a shoeshaped basement with brick frame. The tower has two rooms one above the other with cross vaults. On the top, protruring trapdoor’s shelves are still visible.
